what is catmint?

We landed on the name “Catmint” for our art-teaching, creative company for three reasons: First, we both love the beauty and symbolism associated with flowers, and catmint is a flowering perennial (see photo below) common in Colorado. Second, we were drawn to the name’s playfulness. For the kid inside all of us, and for the kids we teach, we love that the name catmint, which is another name for cat nip, connotes whimsical kitties and playful art-making. We believe making art should be fun, not something to be taken too seriously. Last, we wanted to name our business after a perennial because they are resilient and come back to bloom year after year, even after long, cold Colorado winters. Not only does catmint return in the spring, but if given free rein, it proliferates and spreads rapidly. What a beautiful image for creativity. Both Caroline and Jennie have experienced times in our lives when we have come back to our art practice after taking time away, and each time we come back, we find ourselves completely enamored with this beautiful, introspective craft. And, like the perennial catmint plant, we feel the desire to spread this joy far and wide with our friends and neighbors. Catmint Creative will offer a variety of classes, workshops, art hikes, and private lessons, and we can’t wait to grow this little creative community together with you.
